Priorities
Healthcare
-
Healthcare is a human right and we need to end the practice of politicians, lobbyists, and insurance companies getting wealthy at the expense of the American people.
I support Medicare for All, but beyond that I would like to see an increased investment in our public health infrastructure. We need to be focused on preventing disease tomorrow just as much as treating illness today. Recent estimates show that for every $1 we invest in public health policies, we save $14 in future societal costs.
I support the Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act, which would create a national paid family and medical leave program and the Healthy Families Act, which guarantees paid sick days for millions of Americans.
-
We need to increase Medicaid reimbursements for all services, especially perinatal services, allowing for our labor and delivery units to sustain operation. Expanding Medicaid reimbursement and training opportunities for midwifery and doula services would work to address provider shortages and racial health disparities. Racially diverse population have higher rates of Medicaid enrollment and have a history of relying on the care of midwives and doulas.
I support the Better Care Better Jobs Act, which would establish programs and provide funds for state Medicaid programs to improve home- and community-based care services.
-
Abortion is healthcare.
In DC, I would work to increase funding for Title X, something that has not happened since 2015 and would oppose any efforts to reinstate the domestic gag rule.
Congress must also pass right to contraception legislation to ensure universal access to birth control options. I believe that we must continue to respect individuals’ autonomy, preferences, and needs by ensuring that person-centered care remains a cornerstone of Title X’s mission.
I support the passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act. I also support repealing the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds for abortion-related services and denies many low-income folks from having full access to reproductive health care. We need to codify the right to abortion into law and we need to ensure that everyone is allowed to make the choices that best suit their lives, regardless of their income or geographic location.
-
Trans rights are human rights.
In the Senate I would oppose any effort to remove protections for those experiencing discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression.
I would support the BE HEARD in the Workplace Act, which increases protections against discrimination and harassment and clarifies that the Civil Rights Act protects against workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Economics
-
When it comes to affordability, I am most focused on supporting a dramatic increase to the federal minimum wage. There are so many issues related to affordability: food costs, housing, and energy, among them. I pledge to support affordable policies in all of these areas, but recognize that proposing and passing legislation is a lengthy process. Once a bill passes, it can take even longer for the funds to be allocated to the appropriate agencies who then funnel resources to their communities after keeping some of the funds for their administrative costs. The American people can't wait. We need relief now.
I support the Raise the Wage Act, but don’t believe that $15 an hour is high enough to support a basic standard of living and would like to see that increased.
Numerous studies have shown that when you give money directly to those in need, they use it to cover their most essential costs--that might be paying health care bills, catching up on back rent, paying for car repairs, or filling their kitchen with nutritious foods. We need to put more money in the hands of the working class in as quick and streamlined a way as possible and trust that they will use that money to best address their individual circumstances. That's why I believe in increasing our federal minimum wage to reflect a true livable wage, as was the original intent of the law.
-
I support higher taxes on the wealthy as a means to reduce income inequality and fund public services and social programs.
-
I am an advocate for student loan forgiveness. While in the senate I would support the Lowering Student Loans Act and Student Loan Interest Elimination Act, which cap federal student loan interest rates.
-
I support allowing caregivers to use tax-sheltered retirement saving tools that are available to other workers and expand the availability of Social Security benefits to those who work as informal caregivers.
This year Equal Pay Day was March 26, 2026—it is the day that women must work until to make up for the pay disparity that they had with men for the previous year. In the Senate, I will work close this gap by expanding tax credits for caregiving, implementing more progressive tax rates, and supporting the Paycheck Fairness Act and Raise the Wage Act of 2025.
-
I support the PRO Act, which works to repeal anti-worker legislation, ban anti-union practices, and protect the right to strike.
I would support a National Domestic Workers Bill of Rights that would guarantee basic labor rights and protections for domestic workers, including minimum wage and overtime as well as safeguard against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
Environmental
-
I support the passage of the Green New Deal as well as increasing protection and support for our National Parks system. I would like to see the United States further invest in renewable energy systems to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
-
We must work to tackle environmental and climate change threats in all aspects of our economy and policy.
This means creating harsher penalties for companies who violate environmental law, discouraging factory farming and investing in sustainable agricultural practices, discontinuing the use of PFAs-laden wastewater sludge as fertilizer, banning data centers, strengthening laws that protect the cleanliness of our water and air, and refraining from inciting international violence.
-
I support tribal sovereignty for our indigenous populations. Indigenous people have always been incredible champions for environmental stewardship. Here in the U.S. they have often lead restoration efforts by strengthening wildlife habitats, protecting our water, and standing up to polluters. We need to do more to elevate their voices and follow their lead.
Education
-
Education serves as the foundation for our nation's future success. I support more equitable funding for our public schools that prioritizes the needs of historically underserved communities and high-poverty districts.
As and educator and the only elected union leader in the race for U.S. Senate in Maine, I believe that public educators at all levels should have the ability to unionize and strike.
-
I support free community college nationwide.
I would demand that public institutions end their over reliance on adjunct professors as a means of increasing their bottom line. Our entire secondary education system is currently resting on the backs of exploited educators, many of whom are not given benefits, adequate pay, or job security.
-
I am an advocate for student loan forgiveness. While in the Senate, I would support the Lowering Student Loans Act and Student Loan Interest Elimination Act, which cap federal student loan interest rates.
Foreign Policy
-
I want to see the reinstatement of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). We must also rejoin the World Health Organization and Paris Climate Agreement.
I oppose any effort by the Trump administration to withhold aid to countries like Zambia in exchange for access to resources. Humanitarian aid should not be used as a bargaining chip.
-
In supporting the Leahy Laws, I oppose the use of U.S. funds or weapons in any country that uses them to carry out attacks on human rights.
What we are seeing under the Trump administration is a decline in our global influence and weakened credibility due in large part to his tyrannical nature and complete disregard for the rule of law.
-
When it comes to Israel and the genocide in Gaza, I support the two-state solution that was agreed upon previously between the Palestine Liberation Organization and Israel. My understanding is that the Palestine Authority still supports this idea, while Israel does not.
I pledge to always elevate the voices of Palestinians to make sure that their perspectives are considered when creating policies that will impact their lives.
Social
There is a lot of great work already being done in Congress to eliminate the barriers to ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment. As senator, I would work with the Congressional Caucus on the Equal Rights Act and members of the Senate to support senate joint resolution 4, which removes the deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.
Since 2018, we have seen 50-70% reductions in victim service funding nationwide due in large part to underfunding of the Victims of Crime Act or VOCA. I support restoring those funds and would vote in favor of the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act, which seeks to direct excess funds collected through the False Claims Act into the Crime Victims Fund to make up for the funding shortfall.
I would reject proposals that seek to use VOCA funds for other Dept. of Justice Programs and support a continued federal funding stream from VOCA for tribal communities.
I support universal background checks and the closing of the Charleston Loophole, which pushes through gun purchases after 3 days even if a background check hasn’t been completed.
We must pass laws that keep guns out of the hands of those who have been convicted of hate crimes and support Extreme Risk or “Red Flag” Laws.
I support the prohibition of devices like bump stocks that allow users to convert their firearms into rapid-fire weapons.
I also support repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which blocks gun manufacturers from being held legally responsible when their actions result in community harm.
We need to abolish our for-profit prison system. I support reforming the 13th Amendment to remove the allowance of slave labor as punishment for a crime.
I'd like to see the United States work to address racial disparities in arrests and convictions, limit the number of juveniles who are tried as adults, expand diversion programs, improve prison conditions, and increase the availability of mental health and substance abuse resources for incarcerated individuals.
In the Senate, I would support the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Together, these policies would allow us to restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and update it to the present day. This would include expanding ballot access, automating voter registration, ending anti-voter practices, addressing campaign finance reform, and banning partisan gerrymandering.
I would like to see the U.S. end criminal disenfranchisement nationwide.
I believe that we should offer more support for non-English speakers as they navigate the voting process.
I would also want to create more educational opportunities and resources for people who want to run for office at all levels of government. When I first was making the decision to run for U.S. Senate, it was very difficult for me to find the information that I was looking for and it felt very much like the process for seeking federal office was only available to those who already had inside knowledge of the system. I believe that all Americans should have access to that information.
I support the Child Care for Every Community Act, which works to create a universal child care benefit.
I will fight to restore the expanded Child Tax Credit that recently ended in 2023.
In the U.S. Senate, I will work to abolish ICE. It has become abundantly clear that the mission of the agency is to reign terror over our communities and encourage racist ideologies. In addition to dismantling ICE, it is imperative that we work to hold agents accountable for the numerous human rights violations that they've committed and send the message that hateful behavior will not be tolerated.
Detention centers need to be closed and victims need to be justly compensated for the horrors that they've endured.
We must do everything that we can to support our immigrant neighbors and expand legal pathways to citizenship, including increasing the number of employment-based (EB) visas, eliminating per-county caps, and expanding family-sponsored visa options. I would also support strengthening safe migration systems for asylum seekers and victims of crime.
While I am not a veteran myself, I am the daughter of a Marine Corps veteran and was married to an Army medic during his deployment to Afghanistan.
I pledge to expand resources and benefits to service members, veterans, and their families, including a restoration to all cuts made to VA benefits under the Trump administration.
